CURRENTLY FOUND IN:
Currently around the world, the red panda can be found in Nepal, Sikkim, Bhutan, northern Burma, and the provinces of Yunnan and Sichuan in south central China.(9)
USED TO BE FOUND IN:
In the past the red panda could have been found in the north in the Himalayas and other high mountains of northern Myanmar. In the west they could have been found in western Sichuan and Yunnan Provinces in China, the westernmost range in the Namlung Valley in Mugu District and Lake Rara region of north-western Nepal. To the south the farthest they can be found is Liakiang Range of western Yunnan in China. The north and eastern limit is upper Min Valley of western Sichuan in China.(11)
ESTIMATE OF NUMBER OF RED PANDAS:

The Red Panda is a rare animal to come across, it is estimated that there are fewer 2.500 Red Pandas left in the wild. There is not an accurate estimate of the Red Panda population due to its isolated nature and the rigorous terrain it lives in. In 1994 it was estimated that the population was between 13,000 to 16,000. Therefore it shows that due to habitat loss there has been an excessive decrease in Red Panda populations and that it will continue to decrease as long as current trends continue.(11)
